What volunteers do here
A volunteer, non-profit search-and-rescue team (established 1972) serving Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore, Belcarra, Burnaby and New Westminster. Recruits roughly every two years through a free online intro course, application, evaluation hike, and interview, followed by about a year of training (weekly evenings plus 1-2 weekend days a month, 400+ hours a year once active). No prior search-and-rescue experience is required, but fitness and outdoor/navigation/first-aid skills are assets.
Good to know
Time commitment. About a year of training, then 400+ hours a year — a serious ongoing commitment. Recruitment runs about every two years.
