Give Local BC volunteer directory

Privacy

Privacy

Last updated September 2026. Plain-language summary, then the details.

The short version. Give Local is a directory. We don’t collect volunteer registrations, we don’t require an account, and we don’t sell or share personal information. When you click through to an organization, you’re on their site under their privacy policy — not ours.

What we collect

Directory browsing. You can browse and filter the entire directory without giving us anything. Filtering happens in your browser; your filter choices are not sent to us.

Forms. If you use the “suggest an organization” or “contact” forms, we receive what you type — typically your name, email, and message — so we can respond and, where relevant, review a listing. We keep these messages only as long as needed to act on them.

Newsletter. If you sign up, we store your email address to send occasional updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. (Not active in this build.)

Language preference. Your chosen language is stored in your browser (localStorage) so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device.

Location. If you tap “Near me,” your browser asks your permission and gives the page your approximate coordinates. We use them once, in your browser, to pick the closest BC region, then discard them — they are never stored or sent anywhere. We remember only the region name you ended up browsing, in localStorage on your device.

Analytics & cookies

This build sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If the operator later adds privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics (for example, a cookieless tool), this page will be updated to say so and what it measures.

When you leave for an organization’s site

Every “volunteer page” link opens the organization’s own website in a new tab. Anything you enter there — an application, your contact details — goes to that organization, governed by their privacy policy. Give Local never sees it.

Your choices

To ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, email give.local.volunteering@gmail.com. BC residents have rights under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA); we’ll respond to reasonable requests.
